[custom design] Destination Fiesta! Create a Stationery Suite Unique to Your Wedding

papel picado themed wedding

Starting from your event’s theme — like the Mexican destination wedding shown here — is an ideal way to begin the creative process for your invitations and stationery. This is exactly what we did to create Liz’s wedding package after she Googled around & found Papercake’s “Papel Picado” themed design via Etsy! (Papel picado is a Mexican style of art that features tissue paper cut-outs.)

destination save the date card
A destination wedding save-the-date with envelope; includes papel-picado graphic + photograph

After the initial email inquiry & discussion on papers, colors, etc., I began the process with the design of their monogram, a papel picado flag with initials. (The monogram will set the tone for the special day & can be used throughout the wedding stationery, on the cake, favors, or even lighting at the reception! e.g. check out the postage stamp above – ordered via zazzle). I placed their monogram onto the banner illustration along with an engagement photo for their save the date cards. She had the guest & return addresses printed directly onto the envelopes by cards & pockets; (on their site, select the envelope color & size, choose your fonts, then pick guest only -or- guest + return address printing).

custom wedding invitation diy assembly
Behind the scenes! After custom designing & printing the invite and enclosure cards, the assembly can begin: layering cards together, twine embellishment cut to size, monogram tags punched, tie all together & insert face-up in outer envelope!

We had a little fun with the papel picado invitations & switched up some of the paper & ink colors. Liz also had the addresses printed on pink, watermelon envelopes (not shown). Finally, I printed the custom monogram onto a tag that we tied with twine around the 2-layer invite & enclosure cards. I cannot wait to see what we do for the reception stationery! 😉

You can do the very same to create your custom wedding suite by first working with me to develop a monogram or graphic, then adding this design to the save the dates, and finally styling the invitations to match!  fyi: If you would like to print & assemble your own stationery, I also offer DIY design assistance where I layout and provide high-resolution pdf’s ready for print!

[stationery design] watercolor collaboration

Watercolor painting invites mountains

Inspiration comes when you least expect it… especially while lounging on a Lake Tahoe beach. This time it brought on a collaboration with Marissa Marquez of Colormonger … check out these watercolor images she painted while relaxing and enjoying the view!

Quickly after seeing her amazing artwork, my mind started dreaming of typography along with paper & envelopes to match. I ended up designing a save the date and a wedding invitation (an rsvp card is also available if needed). I’m so excited about this new addition to my portfolio and hope we can work together in the near future…!

Etsy Shop > you can choose from the diy digital design (if you can print yourself) or the print listing (if you need me to print, provide envelopes & ship to you).

[custom design] papel picado letterpress wedding invitation suite

I finally received a sample of dave & emily’s letterpress wedding invitation package that I custom designed for them! I cannot believe how amazing the papel picado design looks printed [these photos don’t even do it justice!] 😉 I’m so glad they found me & requested my graphic design assistance, since they already had a letterpress printer lined up [at Full Circle Press].

[photography] turn your photos into art

I love the look of canvas on my walls. And of course an easy DIY project … like wrapping my leftover handmade paper on blank canvas to give or keep as unique wall art. [fyi: I use a staple gun though, instead of mod podge].

But wait, Printcopia is a new way to turn YOUR photos and snapshots into works of art, with a variety of printing materials and options to choose from including gallery-quality canvas, sleek acrylic, and glorious panoramic printing. You can upload your own images [even from instagram or facebook] directly on their easy to use website; just choose size, image & any custom details.

[tech style] iPad case + keyboard facelift

ipad case cover

I’ve happily acquired a hand-me-down original iPad 1!
I searched everywhere for a stylish, unique case (it was tough to even find a regular case for this version).  When I found Inspired Cases on etsy I was so excited! Check out her shop if you need a fun case for your iPad 1, 2 or 3 (I love that she has all case options too)!

DIY laptop keyboard facelift:
It seems strange, but I always need a random creative project outside of my every day artistic job … especially during the busy season. So when I found a photo on pinterest showing how to give your keyboard ‘a happy facelift‘, I had to try it.  {you can of course use washi tape… but I used paper tape that I already had on hand (cavallini paris & numbers)… and I plan on purchasing the alphabet tape someday to switch out on a few of the letters}.

My friends darlene & colin were married September 5, 2010 in Santa Rosa, California.
Their wine country wedding took place at the Vintners Inn & these gorgeous photos were shot by Jesse Leake photography. Below are just a few of my favorite images…of course I simply love the invitation & cake styled together! 😉
